Welcome to a new paradigm of education...

The EcoCommunity Montessori School

Introducing EcoCommunity Education

Maria Montessori understood that children, from the earliest age, have an innate ability to absorb language and culture from their surroundings. Contrary to the idea that children are ’empty vessels’ needing to be passively filled with information, she observed in them a nearly unquenchable drive to explore, take in, and integrate the world around them by directly interacting with their caregivers, communities, and environments. Montessori responded to this natural inclination by carefully preparing the child’s learning environments according to specific developmental stages and highly sensitive periods of learning.

At the EcoCommunity School, the sustainable ecovillage community is the prepared environment. Inviting learning and living spaces, sustainable arts studios, workshops, and surrounding natural environments, lush with permaculture gardens, replace factory modeled classrooms. Hands-on activity, practice, and genuine interaction with other community members fully engage us in the life-long process of learning and growing. Students are able to explore their interests and passions with all of their senses, as integral parts of a thriving and cooperative community. In this way, we can pass on ecologically and socially sustainable culture to our children through direct experience.

Experiential Learning
